If you can’t answer to that hierarchy, and you don’t listen to what we say, that is called insubordination, and it’s legal grounds for firing.”
that's a bad quote by a person who is bad at her job and who is a bad leader. the industry doesn't matter. the topic doesn't matter. the specific person doesn't matter. the company doesn't matter.
bad leadership.
ajross 9 days ago [-]
Well, maybe, but the quote is from a middle manager, not "management". I don't disagree with any of the analysis in general, but the deeper truth here is that Shayndi Raice was cross pressured: the desires of upper management and the desires of the workforce could not, on this subject, be reconciled. You can't fix that with a better manager.
Now, you can get more specific and point out that in a situation where CBS corporate management wants CBS News journalists to report the "news" (which is a journalism product) in a way that the journalists don't, that management is almost certainly "wrong" as a matter of product management.
But the even more specific point is that CBS News isn't viewed as a journalism product by upper management anymore. They were a token to be traded to get the Paramount merger to go through, and Weiss and her staff were brought on to make CBS News more palatable to the regulators, not the consumers.

Media is hard to get right/proper, and tempering the profit motive with social strictures works when everyone is mostly in agreement (I mean inside the organization).
However when the divide is so contentious, essentially binary, appealing to only the profit motive is probably not going to get the desired results.

The whole Skydance/Paramount (Ellison) take over of Warner Bros, CBS, etc. and then installing people like Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief does _not_ help the “own the media” trope.

For context, because swingboy is being oblique, Ellison and Weiss are both Jewish and the word omitted before "own the media" is Jews.

Let's drop the labels and state the facts, there are a group of people who are using the media to push an agenda that is covering up atrocities.

It's pretty curious to call "conspiracy" a statement that is easily provable or disprovable. A large chunk if the media in the West is owned or directed by people of Jewish origins, there's nothing conspiratorial about that, it's a simple statement.

it's also accurate, so it doesnt really matter what memespeak name you want to give it. spiking stories that are rightly and accurately critical of israel doesn't help combat the perception of a zionist-controlled media. i don't believe that a couple of isolated data points rises to the level of evidence of widespread conspiracy, but again, the optics are NOT good.
The problem with this specific debate fallacy, as I see it is the following:

That's an excellent point. Overtly having an opinion on something well outside his jurisdiction is essentially proof of purchase.
It's also strongly demonstrative of the increasing gap between 'those with even a small amount of power' and 'normal people'. Said gap leads to misalignment of actions and values which, generally, only serve to further increase the size of the gap.
Topic derailment: what is the justification for anyone to say that any group of people has no right to exist?
It would be antisemitic to say that Israel has no right to exist. What anti- is it to say that Palestine has no right to exist, and why is saying one of those things media-scandal-worthy and the other send almost acceptable as a 'normal' position to hold?

throw310822 9 days ago [-]
Well, not really- the word antisemitism has been invented in 1860s to describe aversion to Jews (both negatively and positively, as a political program), so despite the fact that technically Arabs are semites too, the word never meant anything else than what it means now.

I agree with most of your point, but it's not antisemitic to say that Israel has no right to exist. Dear Propagandist,
I don't control what happens in any race for the House. My vote is a tiny fraction. If the Democrats can't put together a strong enough platform to earn votes, that is on them, not on the voters who choose not to vote for them. I find the attempts to blackmail voters by claiming they are responsible for the failure of a party pathetic, and also ignorant.
The fact that algorithms may be pushing the issue of Gazan deaths to the forefront may indeed be propaganda to make it an issue. But these are not deepfakes; they aren't false. There IS a genocide in Gaza. The deaths have been reported by reliable sources. Perhaps you have heard of the recent documentary NAZA, in which IDF members readily talk about the willingness of Israel to ignore the deaths of family members if it meant they could take out a member of Hamas. There is also credible evidence that Netanyahu had credible intel about the 10/7 attacks beforehand. This wouldn't surprise me, because it is also a matter of record that Netanyahu funded Hamas in order to further his own political goals. Then there are his coalition members who are rabid psychopaths. They all should be on trial for war crimes. Let justice prevail; if they are innocent, they should have nothing to fear. My rep has voted (against his party) to financially sanction the court who would do this.
In your logic, my rep can literally vote against his party, and if I choose to vote for someone other than him (a 3rd party, at that), it is I who am aiding and abetting Republicans? Tell me, propagandist, what is life like with a worldview built from a house of cards?
I am not throwing my vote away. I am using it. It is, frankly, disgusting for you to tell me that if I don't vote the way you say I should, I am "throwing my vote away." In fact, by voting against a candidate whose views repulse me, I am doing exactly what a vote is for.

No input from Biden? He sent them unlimited bombs to drop, multiple UN vetos, constant political and media cover. He literally went on tv and lied about seeing 40 beheaded babies. His admin is 100% complicit with genocide. It doesn’t behove your cause to pretend otherwise. No one is buying it.
In addition to the many domestic issues I listed, not having our country controlled by a terrorist, baby killing, genocide state is priority #1. Again, it’s the easiest thing in the world to oppose Israel if you’re not bribed/blackmailed by them. They’re hated by the majority of voters. I am 55/45 on supporting Israel’s response to 10/7 because that was reprehensible but generally oppose supporting them because they’ve been a pisspoor ally in terms of how they’ve treated us, especially when Likud is in charge in Israel while Dems are in charge in the US.
I also am generally opposed to the price taggers, the settlers in the West Bank, and the Israeli military’s tacit support of said settlers.
Despite all that, if you are ok with MAGA keeping power so you don’t support people like Biden or Kamala, I think you have been subjected to propaganda or are mentally regarded because the MAGAs are worse for the Palestinians.
There is no world where the Democrats aren’t the perfect answer, while the MAGAs are significantly worse for your goals, that you are making sound decisions if you are fine with MAGA leadership over Democrats leadership.

In addition to the many domestic issues I listed, not having our country controlled by a terrorist, baby killing, genocide state is priority #1. Again, it’s the easiest thing in the world to oppose Israel if you’re not bribed/blackmailed by them. They’re hated by the majority of voters. My vote is here for the taking, just don’t be an Israeli spy.
Already lying. Show me the receipts proving that.

There is no world where the Democrats aren’t the perfect answer, while the MAGAs are significantly worse for your goals, that you are making sound decisions if you are fine with MAGA leadership over Democrats leadership.
and you're claiming to be the enlightened one? hah.

Reflexive absolutism is bad, sorry.
Not just in playing sight, but reveling in it like pigs in mud.
But don't you dare say they control American media!
